Coinstats Portfolio Sharing and Balance Controls
Coinstats lets you share personal crypto portfolios by link and choose whether the shared view displays your balance. You can share one portfolio or All Portfolios, add an optional passcode through the web interface, and later change balance visibility or remove the link to withdraw access.
Bottom line: Balance hiding changes the shared display, while passcode protection and link removal control access to the portfolio.
Shared Links and Information Exposure
A sharing link opens access to the selected portfolio information, while the visibility settings determine how its balance appears. Sharing can cover balances, decentralized finance (DeFi) information, or analytics. Even with the balance hidden, a chart, portfolio description, or visible holding can communicate information that you intended to keep private.
A recipient can forward an address or passcode to someone else. Consider whether the information suits everyone who might receive those details, especially when distributing a link in a conversation that others can copy. The recipient controls what they do with information they've already seen.
If the shared material exposes a public wallet address, anyone who knows that address may be able to inspect its public blockchain history. Hiding an amount within a portfolio display doesn't change those underlying records.
Balances, Allocation, and Performance
Holding Quantities and Portfolio Value
A holding quantity measures the units of an asset, while portfolio value expresses holdings in a valuation currency. Prices can change that value without changing the quantity held. A balance display setting concerns the presentation of amounts, so avoid describing a masked number as a zero holding.
Allocation and Profit and Loss
Allocation describes how holdings divide across assets or categories. Profit and loss (P/L) describes gains and losses, which can appear as amounts or percentages. Analytics includes allocation breakdowns and performance charts. A performance chart shows how a metric changes over its selected period.
Personal Portfolios and Watchlist Eligibility
Link Sharing is available for personal portfolios and excludes portfolios in the Watchlist. The Watchlist organizes wallets that you want to follow separately from your personal portfolio collection.
Personal is an organizational label within the tracker. A portfolio entry describes tracked information; its position in the app doesn't establish control of the underlying wallet.
Web Sharing Preferences
Web sharing begins from the Share control in your selected portfolio's Portfolio Tracker view. Its preferences include a title and description before link generation. Configure balance visibility in this panel; the web flow also offers optional passcode protection.
Keep sensitive details out of those fields when they're unnecessary for identifying the portfolio. An amount hidden elsewhere doesn't conceal something that you've written directly into a label.
Mobile Sharing Entry Points
Mobile sharing uses Share in the Portfolio tab or Link Sharing in the chart's three-dot menu. The panel contains the Hide Balance toggle and options to copy or distribute the link.
Passcode-Protected Access
The share-token passcode is an optional six-digit code. A protected portfolio requires that code for access. The web sharing interface offers passcode setup when you create the link. Balance hiding and passcode protection address separate disclosure choices: one concerns the displayed amount, and the other adds an access requirement.
Sending the passcode separately from a broadly distributed link can reduce accidental disclosure.
The application programming interface (API) provides programmatic data access, and reads of a passcode-protected shared portfolio must include its code. This condition also matters when sharing portfolio information with an integration.
Sharing Parameters and Access Limits
Sharing controls cover portfolio selection, balance presentation, and access removal. Their limits differ, so a change to one control shouldn't stand in for another.
| Parameter | Available Setting | Control Effects and Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Portfolio Scope | Selected portfolio or All Portfolios | The selection sets the shared scope |
| Eligible Collection | Personal portfolios | Watchlist portfolios are excluded |
| Balance Display | Hide Balance enabled or disabled | Visibility can be adjusted later |
| Share-Token Passcode | Optional six-digit code | Protected access requires the code |
| Link Access | Remove link control | Removes access through that link |
| Combined Effect | Selection, visibility, and access control | Previously saved copies remain outside these controls |
Does Private Mode Control a Shared Portfolio Link?
Shared-link balance visibility uses the sharing panel's Hide Balance control; Private Mode addresses information displayed on your own screen.
Web Screen Masking
Web Private Mode sits in Portfolio Tracker settings and masks portfolio data with asterisks. It's useful when someone can see your display. Configure shared-link visibility in the sharing panel rather than treating a masked owner dashboard as confirmation of what a recipient can see.
Phone-Flip Balance Hiding
Mobile display privacy uses Hide Balance with Phone Flip in Portfolio Settings. With that setting enabled, turning the phone face down hides the balance; turning it face up reveals it again. A change caused by the phone's orientation concerns your local display. The separate sharing toggle governs the balance presentation selected for the shared link.
What Happens When a Sharing Link Is Removed?
Removing a sharing link withdraws access through that link using the Remove link control. Use removal when you want to stop link access, rather than simply change the balance display.
A saved chart, screenshot, or written amount exists separately from the shared page, so removing access doesn't erase those copies. Decide how much information to disclose before distributing the link.
Single-Chart Sharing and Downloaded Copies
Analytics offers sharing or downloading for individual charts through the share control beside the chart. This provides a narrower content choice when a specific chart supplies the information you want to communicate. Analytics can cover an individual portfolio or all portfolios, so the selected scope remains relevant even when you distribute only a chart.
Some analytics sections require a Premium or Degen subscription. Those access requirements concern the analytics feature and don't establish a universal subscription requirement for ordinary portfolio links. A downloaded chart preserves the information shown when you saved it. Its selected metric, timeframe, and portfolio scope give that copy context. Choose a chart whose contents match what you intend to communicate.
Portfolio Freshness and Programmatic Access
A shared portfolio communicates the records and metrics available through the selected view or data interface.
Portfolio Records and Refreshes
Automatic wallet and exchange connections refresh on a schedule, and Force Sync requests a manual refresh. Sharing doesn't establish that every recent account event appears in the tracker. CSV imports populate a manual portfolio, whose records need to reflect the activity you want to communicate. Price alerts concern market conditions; receiving one doesn't establish that a missing portfolio transaction has entered those records.
Share Tokens and Data Requests
A share token identifies a portfolio shared with another user for API read access. Portfolio endpoints can provide holdings, value, performance charts, and other supported portfolio data. The standard API-key route requires the reader's API key alongside the share token, plus the passcode when protection applies. Keep those access details separate from an exchange account's credentials.
The portfolio-value interface returns value and P/L metrics, while the holdings interface returns asset-level information. A masked balance in a browser isn't proof that a separate API response omits holdings. When granting access to sensitive portfolio information, consider the data that the chosen interface makes available, with passcode protection as an access condition rather than a promise of anonymity.
Coinstats: the short answers
How Can I Move a Watchlist Wallet Into My Personal Portfolios?
In the mobile app, use the menu beside the wallet and select Move to Portfolios. This changes where the tracked wallet appears within the application. Link Sharing applies to entries in the personal portfolio collection. Moving an entry is an organizational change; it doesn't transfer the wallet's assets or establish ownership of its funds.
Is the portfolio-sharing Passcode My Account Password?
The portfolio-sharing passcode is a separate access code for a protected shared portfolio. Your account password concerns account sign-in. Give recipients the sharing link and its passcode when protection applies, without giving them your account password, exchange credentials, or recovery phrase.
Why Does the API Report That a Shared Portfolio wasn't Found?
An invalid share token or a portfolio that no longer exists can produce a shared-portfolio-not-found error. Check the token supplied in the request and whether the portfolio still exists. A passcode requirement is a separate access condition, so an unavailable portfolio and a missing passcode call for different corrections.
Does Sharing Let a Recipient Add Portfolio Transactions Through the API?
A recipient's share token grants read access and doesn't authorize adding transactions to another user's portfolio. The legacy transaction-addition route accepts share links only when they belong to the API user making the request. For an owner's manual portfolio, the preferred route uses the owner's API key and portfolio identifier. Adding a tracking record is also distinct from transferring crypto.
Can a Shared Portfolio Link Restore Access to a Lost Wallet?
A shared portfolio link doesn't supply the credentials needed to restore a wallet. It provides access to portfolio information, and its share token identifies that information for supported data requests. Wallet recovery follows the wallet's own recovery method. Keeping a portfolio link or a chart can preserve information you've saved, without replacing wallet recovery material.
What Should I Include When Reporting a portfolio-sharing Problem?
Describe the platform, the selected portfolio scope, and the visibility setting that isn't behaving as expected. Distinguish a missing sharing option from an access error or an unexpectedly visible amount. Contact Coinstats through its in-app or website chat. Keep account passwords, exchange credentials, and wallet recovery material out of the report.
